Lisa Ann Walter may be television’s favorite second-grade teacher, but one of her proudest titles is when fans refer to her as “the Philly people’s princess.”

“I’m just happy they don’t hate me,” Walter joked. “Philly is my favorite place to do stand-up now. It’s like a warm hug every time I go there.”

Whatever game I go to, I have to go to Chickie’s & Pete’s after to get Crabfries. I can hang out with CEO Pete Ciarrocchi and his wife, Lisa. And I would just make friends there.

It was as a truly special one for us at Chickie's & Pete's! We were honored to be part of Heather & Eric’s wedding celebration and to help make their big day even more memorable. It’s moments like these that remind us how meaningful Chickie’s is to so many people, not just as a place to eat, but as a place where memories are made. Looking to save a few bucks on your Memorial Day weekend getaway?

A favorite Philadelphia area sports bar is once again making sure the unofficial start of summer features free tolls on the way to the Jersey Shore.

Atlantic City Expressway toll to the Jersey Shore is on Chickie's & Pete's for an hour

Chickie's and Pete's Free Toll Friday is set to run from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 23, 2025. Basically, for that hour, drivers rolling through the eastbound (or Shore-bound) Egg Harbor Toll Plaza of the Atlantic City Expressway won't have to pay the toll, which starts at $4.85 in cash.

“Free Toll Friday is one of my favorite summertime traditions,” Chickie’s & Pete’s Chairman and CEO Pete Ciarrocchi said in a news release. “We’re excited to be back at Farley’s Plaza hosting one of our favorite annual events this year. We love to send everyone off to the shore in good spirits before a big holiday weekend!”

As the boss man said, the fun starts before the free tolls kick in. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., folks can pick up free Crabfries at the Farley Plaza rest stop (at milepost 21.3). The outdoor family-friendly party also includes a car show and a "100 Days of Summer celebration with 70+ organizations, vendors, artists and exhibitors, including The Funny Farm rescue sanctuary, New Jersey State Police K9 dog team, Atlantic City International Airport Fire and Rescue Equipment, and more," organizers said.

"We’re excited to kick off our annual 100 Days of Summer celebration and welcome travelers passing through Hammonton on their way to their favorite Jersey Shore destination," South Jersey Transportation Authority Executive Director Stephen Dougherty said. "This year’s festivities offer something for everyone, whether you're enjoying our diverse food truck lineup, checking out classic cars, browsing unique handmade goods, or letting the kids enjoy the petting zoo. It’s a great way to enhance your summer travel experience."

With all that free fun to be had, there is something to remember about your trip to the Jersey Shore, all other tolls on the Atlantic City Expressway and Garden State Parkway will still need to be paid.

Honoring the meaning of Memorial Day during toll giveaway, year round

The folks at Chickie's and Pete's also don't want the meaning of Memorial Day to be lost in all the fun as Ciarrocchi chose Memorial Day weekend for the free toll event to honor those in his family who served.

“My Dad and my Uncles were all in the military,” Ciarrocchi said. “In fact, my Uncle George, who was my restaurant mentor, won the Silver Star for bravery. He was quite the guy, and I couldn't think of a better way to honor him.”

C&P has joined forces with The Patriot Fund to support the organization's mission to supply mental, emotional, social, and financial support for returning veterans. Chickie's even offers a special "Patriot Punch" cocktail that raises money for the fund.

Earlier this season, Chickie’s & Pete’s teamed up with A.J. to launch a limited-time wing flavor inspired by one of his personal favorites, the AJ Brown Sweet Heat wings.  A portion of the proceeds from every order went directly to support A.J. Brown’s foundation.

This week, Chickie’s & Pete’s officially presented A.J. Brown with a check totaling $11,000, a donation made possible by fans, food, and the Philadelphia community. The check was awarded at the Chickie's & Pete's South Philly location, where A.J. took a moment to thank the team, the fans, and the Chickie’s & Pete’s family for helping bring more awareness and resources to his foundation.

Former NASCAR Cup Series Champion Ryan Blaney is enjoying his oo-season with his wife, Gianna Tulio, taking a break from racing. After the couple got married in Aspen, CO, and spent a few days there, they are now in Philadelphia for Blaney's yearly fries trip.

The couple traveled over 1,990 miles from Aspen to Philly to have the 30-year-old's favorite fries at Chickie's & Pete's Restaurant. Gianna Tuilo shared the image of the restaurant's iconic fries with the famous white creamy cheese sauce. 

Ryan Blaney is among the fans of Chickie's and Pete's fries and took his wife all the way to Philly to have his yearly meal at the restaurant during his off-season. He expressed his excitement for the fries on his X account and wrote " My yearly Philly trip reminds me that Chickie’s and Pete’s is absolute fire and that’s the bottom line."

A Philly favorite, Chickie's & Pete's crabfries are selling for $1 all day in honor of National French Fry Day.

Chickie's & Pete's annually hosts its Crabfries for Heroes event, which benefits the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Survivor Fund.

All sales from their dollar crabfries on July 12, 2024, will be donated to the fund with the goal of making a significant difference in the lives of the families of fallen police officers.

"We look forward to this every year. It's one of our favorite Chickie's & Pete's traditions, Crabfries for Heroes benefiting the FOP Survivors Fund. It's an honor to be able to give back to such a great organization," Pete Ciarrocchi, Chairman and CEO of Chickie's & Pete's said.

Crabfries for Heroes started as a simple idea to say "thank you" to police officers for their service and dedication to their communities.

After seeing the need firsthand, Pete Ciarrocchi and his team decided to make a major commitment to The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Survivors Fund.
